Ryanair to Increase Bonuses for Employees for Identifying Oversized Luggage.
Ryanair to Raise Bonuses for Employees
According to The Sun: Budget airline Ryanair plans to increase bonuses for employees who identify passengers with oversized carry-on luggage during boarding. Currently, employees receive €1.50 (£1.29) for each bag identified, and this amount will rise to €2.50 (£2.16) starting in November.
AlamyAdditionally, the airline will remove the existing limit of €80 (£68.98).
CEO Michael O'Leary stated at a press conference that he 'absolutely does not apologize' for catching people who 'cheat the system'.
If Ryanair's luggage restrictions are not strict enough, passengers may face an additional charge of £75 for placing a large bag in the hold if it is presented at the boarding gate. The company's base fares only allow one small bag that must fit under the seat in front.
O'Leary noted:
“I am still surprised by the number of people with backpacks who still believe they will get through the gate, and we won’t notice the backpack.”
He added:
“We will notice it, and you will pay for the backpack. You will not be able to board if it does not fit.”
The CEO revealed that around 200,000 passengers annually pay for luggage at the airport gates, so the company has 'more work to do to eliminate them.'
“We want everyone to follow the rules. If you follow the rules, there will be no problems,”
he said.
Changes in Luggage Rules
Starting in July, the budget airline is changing the size restrictions for 'personal luggage.' The maximum size is now 40x30x20 cm, adding 5 cm to the overall dimensions. With this change, passengers will now have a total capacity of 24 liters instead of the previous 20 liters. This change was made possible after the introduction of new EU rules prohibiting airlines from charging for small carry-on luggage.
If travelers want to take more luggage, they will need to pay the appropriate fee. Ryanair's website states that the current charge for priority boarding and two carry-on bags ranges from £12 to £36, depending on when it is added during booking or at the airport.
GettyThe charge for carrying checked luggage weighing up to 10 kg will range from £9.49 to £44.99 if added during booking, or from £23.99 to £44.99 if added later or at the airport. The next level - carrying luggage weighing up to 20 kg will cost from £18.99 to £59.99 at booking and from £39.99 to £59.99 if added later.
Checked luggage weighing up to 23 kg, which can only be added during booking, will cost from £29.99 to £80.99. Prices are for a one-way trip, so on the return journey, you will have to pay twice. The overweight luggage charge will be £13 per kilogram.
Despite canceling some routes from the UK, Ryanair will launch new flights to one of the European airports next summer and will open a new base from which flights to the 'Maldives of Europe' will be made.

Ryanair's decision to raise bonuses for employees who monitor compliance with luggage standards emphasizes their stance on controlling the weight and size of carry-on luggage. These changes may affect the experience of passengers planning to travel with this airline. It is important to know the new rules and understand that compliance with them can save time and money during travel. Read also
