According to The Sun: Ryder Cup fans have been warned about the potential appearance of aggressive insects that could become a real menace during the competition.

In the meantime, Ryder Cup visitors have been warned about insects that are likely to appear in large numbers.

These insects, known as shiny fireflies, usually become active in the fall in the Long Island area. With the onset of autumn, they are ready to appear at the Ryder Cup.

Aggressive insects have already caused issues during the US Open. After hatching in May, they actively consume flowers and vegetables.

After several summer months of reproduction, they are preparing for their last activity before the winter cold.

Bryan Eshenauer, an invasive species specialist at Cornell University, believes the only way for Ryder Cup fans to protect themselves is:

“When someone sees an insect, we ask them to first take a photo. And then – to destroy it.”

This warning comes at a time when players are preparing for practice rounds on Wednesday. Both teams displayed good form during the official welcome dinner.

Players are waiting for their pairings on Friday.
