Zelensky appointed a new acting head of the SBU: who will lead the special service.
According to ТСН: Today it became known that Yevhen Khmara will head the Security Service of Ukraine, as Vasyl Malyuk has submitted his resignation.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky announced this change, expressing gratitude to Khmara and all special forces soldiers for their significant combat work during the full-scale war:
“I met with the head of the Special Operations Center “A” of the Security Service of Ukraine Yevhen Khmara. I am grateful to Yevhen and all our special forces soldiers for the extremely important combat work throughout all the years of the full-scale war. Ukraine is achieving the necessary results in its defense, and all our soldiers who ensure this deserve the utmost respect and gratitude. The experience of Ukrainian special forces and the SOC “A” of the SBU will be scaled up. Today, I also discussed with Yevhen other opportunities for the systematic development of the Security Service of Ukraine and the special operations that we are currently preparing,” wrote the president.
Presidential advisor Dmytro Lytvyn added that Yevhen Khmara will serve as the acting head of the SBU.
Short biography of Yevhen Khmara
Yevhen Khmara is a career officer of the SBU and a major general. Although information about his activities before 2023 is limited, it is known that he became the head of the Counter-Terrorism Special Operations Center that year and received the rank of brigadier general.
In 2024, Khmara was promoted to the rank of major general, and on August 25, 2025, the president appointed him as the head of the Special Operations Center “A” of the SBU.
It is worth noting that Vasyl Malyuk, who submitted his resignation, stated that he plans to continue working in the Security Service system, implementing asymmetric special operations of global scale aimed at inflicting maximum damage to the enemy.
This appointment comes amid active changes in the structure of the Security Service and emphasizes the importance of effective management in the face of modern challenges. The new leader has the task of not only preserving the achieved results but also finding new approaches to ensuring the security of Ukraine.
