Ukrainian Security Service Foils Russian Drone Plot Targeting Military in Odesa.
Russian Intelligence Agents Arrested in Odesa
According to Novyny.live: Ukraine's Security Service (SBU) has apprehended two agents working for Russian military intelligence in Odesa. The pair were planning to attack Ukrainian military personnel using an explosive-laden drone. SBU counterintelligence successfully conducted an operation, detaining the suspects before they could launch the unmanned aerial vehicle.
Investigations revealed one detainee is a 49-year-old businessman, while the other is a 47-year-old acquaintance. The agents had received a quadcopter, two kilograms of plastic explosive, and components for assembling an improvised explosive device. Searches of their properties led to the seizure of the following items:
- a drone rigged with explosives
- a Kalashnikov assault rifle
- two Makarov pistols with ammunition
- an F-1 hand grenade
Both individuals have been formally notified of suspicion under articles pertaining to state treason. If found guilty, they face life imprisonment and confiscation of property. This case underscores the persistent threats to national security and the ongoing need for preventative measures. Odesa, a key Black Sea port city, has been a frequent target for Russian reconnaissance and sabotage operations throughout the conflict.
Ukrainian Security Forces Remain Vigilant
The arrest of these Russian intelligence operatives highlights the continued activity of Ukrainian security forces in countering external threats and preventing terrorist acts on Ukrainian soil. This incident demonstrates Ukraine's sustained efforts to maintain security, particularly amid the ongoing military conflict in the country's east, where frontline fighting continues daily.
“The critical need to neutralize threats posed by hostile agents remains a top priority, underscoring the vital work of counterintelligence and law enforcement agencies.”
