A central topic on the agenda will be support for Ukraine, including discussions around a potential financial aid package worth approximately €70 billion. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is expected to hold a bilateral meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump on the sidelines of the event, where key bilateral cooperation issues will be addressed.
Summit Agenda Highlights
The first day kicks off with the Defense Industry Forum, featuring a joint statement from NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte and President Zelenskyy. On day two, the North Atlantic Council will convene to tackle critical matters, including:
- reaffirming the alliance’s strategy of deterrence against Russia;
- boosting defense spending among member states;
- addressing maritime security and freedom of navigation.
Ahead of the summit, Turkish police detained over a hundred protest participants. Zelenskyy has stated that
“any concessions to the Kremlin will only provide additional motivation for the Russian army”and confirmed his intention to hold talks with Trump. The summit will also include a Ukraine-NATO Council meeting at the foreign ministers level, underscoring the alliance’s continued commitment to supporting Kyiv amid ongoing security challenges.
