Lithuania Prepares to Blow Up Bridges on the Border with Russia: What We Know About the Threat.
According to ТСН: The Baltic States are ramping up their security measures, anticipating increased Russian aggression in the coming years. Lithuania has already begun preparations for the possible destruction of bridges on the border with Russia as a preventive measure in case of an invasion. Analysts believe that this region may become the first where new provocations from Moscow could occur.
The head of the NGO "Center for Common Actions," former Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine for European Integration Oleg Ryabchuk, emphasized that Russia's war against NATO is likely to have a hybrid nature. Moscow continues to test the Alliance's resilience, avoiding open military clashes in the early stages.
"This is not about full-scale actions involving tanks and aviation, but rather about hybrid methods of warfare that Russia has already developed — from cyberattacks to civil unrest," Ryabchuk noted.
He also pointed out that provocations on the European theater of war could intensify. This is a test for Europe regarding its willingness to invoke NATO's Article 5 (collective defense) and will demonstrate the determination of the United States as a key partner.
Playing the 'Russian-speaking' Card
A particular concern is the rise of pro-Russian sentiments within the Baltic States. Experts note attempts by the Kremlin to replicate the scenario of 'protecting oppressed Russian-speaking populations' that preceded the invasion of Ukraine.
"One Lithuanian analyst has already said that the activity is off the charts — Russian-speaking citizens are taking to the streets in protests, gathering for rallies, and showing through their actions that 'their rights are unprotected'," Ryabchuk stressed.
Internal destabilization could provide grounds for the introduction of 'peacekeepers' or hybrid troops from Russia. Moscow is also trying to raise the stakes in global politics. The Kremlin's statements about its readiness to support China in the event of a conflict over Taiwan, as well as information leaks about 'attacks' on Putin's residences, point to attempts to apply pressure on the United States ahead of possible negotiations.
In this situation, Lithuania and other Baltic States find themselves trapped by Russia's imperial ambitions, prompting them to prepare for the extreme measure — the physical destruction of infrastructure at the borders.
According to CNN, leading military experts and intelligence officers warned at a closed conference in London that the West is catastrophically unprepared for a potential direct conflict with Russia.
Intelligence estimates suggest that Moscow may be preparing for war with NATO as early as 2027–2029, while hybrid attacks by Russia — diversions, use of drones, and GPS jamming — are already ongoing.
Analysts note that European defense plans do not correspond to real capabilities, and the time for preparation is measured in just a few years.
Thus, the situation in the Baltic region remains tense, and countries are actively working on security measures, trying not only to prepare for potential threats but also to maintain stability in the region. Events are developing quickly, and it is important to monitor the further steps of the Kremlin and Europe's reaction to these challenges.
