According to The Sun: A British grandmother serving a sentence for drug trafficking is being transferred back to the United Kingdom after 12 years spent on death row in Indonesia. Lindsay Sandford, 69, received the death penalty after being caught with cocaine worth £1.6 million in her suitcase. She could have faced execution as part of Indonesia's harsh war on drugs.
“I always feared that I would not live to see the time when I could return home,” she said in a phone conversation.
Lindsay had been serving her sentence in a correctional facility, but her health has significantly deteriorated, providing grounds for her return.
Returning Lindsay to her homeland may be an important step in her life as after a long battle with a serious illness, she will have the opportunity to recuperate at home.
