Ukrainian Drone Forces Strike 20 Russian Vessels in the Black Sea Overnight.
Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems Unit Conducts Major Naval Operation
According to UATV: On the night of July 15, 2023, Ukraine’s unmanned systems forces destroyed 20 vessels in the Black Sea, including:
- 17 oil tankers,
- two LNG carriers,
- one tugboat.
This operation marked a significant step in countering enemy forces in regional waters. The destroyed tankers collectively held about 135 million barrels of oil, highlighting the operation’s major impact on energy dynamics.
In addition to sinking the vessels, Ukrainian forces also took out a Russian Mi-28 'Night Hunter' helicopter. This demonstrates the effectiveness of Ukraine’s military in neutralizing hostile threats. Over the recent period, a total of 116 vessels have been disabled in the Sea of Azov as part of Ukraine’s broader strategy to control maritime routes.
As Robert 'Madyar' Brovdy noted, 'These are the first ships that Ukrainian drones have detected in the Black Sea area.'
This operation is a crucial move in strengthening Ukraine’s position in the Black Sea, a region of strategic importance for controlling sea lanes and ensuring security. The destruction of so many tankers could also affect energy supplies, particularly oil shipments, with far-reaching consequences for both regional and global economies. The use of drone technology underscores how Ukrainian forces are adapting to the challenges of modern warfare.
