Strategic Communications Mastery: Ukrainian Defense Forces Learn from International Broadcasting Experience.
Training Ukrainian Defense Personnel in Strategic Communications
According to UATV: Members of Ukraine's Defense Forces recently completed a specialized training program focused on strategic communications, which included a visit to the state enterprise 'Multimedia Platform for International Broadcasting of Ukraine.' During the trip, the delegation observed how Ukrainian international broadcasting operates and produces content aimed at global audiences. This hands-on session was part of a broader instructional module on media content creation for military personnel.
The delegation included Melissa Prin and Chris Hyde, who facilitated the training process. Notably, the 'UATV English' channel operates under the 'MPIU' state enterprise. Henry Keen, a host on 'UATV English' and a lecturer at the StratCom Academy, shared his expertise, stating:
"As a host on UATV English, my daily work involves making stories about Ukraine clear and compelling for an international audience." - Henry Keen.
Strategic Communications Specialist Training Program
This training initiative for strategic communications specialists is part of a comprehensive NATO program designed to build a system for preparing military communicators in Ukraine. It has already been added to the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine's Professional Development Catalog.
Key areas of focus for Ukrainian international broadcasting include:
- producing multimedia content;
- establishing a global distribution network;
- leveraging digital platforms;
- fostering partnerships.
Channels under the 'MPIU' state enterprise include FREEДОМ, 'Dom,' UATV, and The Gaze, highlighting Ukraine's active role in providing international information support.
This training for Ukrainian Defense Forces personnel underscores the critical role of media in modern military operations. With the growing significance of information warfare, there is a clear need for professionals who can effectively engage international audiences and shape a positive global image of Ukraine. This effort is part of the country's broader push to integrate into Euro-Atlantic structures and strengthen cooperation with international partners.
