Paralyzed patient discharged from hospital: he was found near the metro in Kyiv.
According to ТСН: In Kyiv, near the "Zvirynetska" metro station, a sad incident occurred that caused outrage on social media. Bystanders noticed a man with bags sitting on a parapet who reported that medics had left him there without a phone or money, which put him at risk of freezing.
Lilit Skraklii, a Kyiv resident who was the first to come to his aid, shared his story.
Witness's version of the situation
Lilit noted that the man sitting on the parapet appeared to be quite sober and tidy, but he could not move.
"He said that he is paralyzed and was thrown out of the hospital. He insisted that he had been sitting there for a long time, no one approached him, and he was very cold. He has no relatives or family in Kyiv, and he has nowhere to go. He has no phone. He asked to call the police or an ambulance," writes Lilit Skraklii.
Fortunately, police arrived at the call and summoned an ambulance. However, according to Lilit, the medics did not want to take the man.
She tried to find a place in a shelter for the homeless, but was refused, as they do not accept paralyzed individuals. Lilit believes that the medics should have organized his transportation to a shelter in Yasnogorodka.
"Instead, the doctors transported the paralyzed patient and left him 200 meters away, right on the parapet near the metro. He could freeze to death there. I persuaded the ambulance to take him back to the hospital. At the hospital, it turned out that the man had recently suffered a stroke, and the doctors simply did not find a place for him. So they left a defenseless person on the street," adds Lilit Skraklii.
Questions to society
Lilit, who helped the man, is shocked by the situation.
"I am still in shock. What is happening in our country? How can people who took the Hippocratic oath throw another person out onto the street to simply die? Why in a country at war do people walk past others? Why do those who cannot provide for themselves simply die?"
Official position of the Department of Health
The Department of Health of the Kyiv City State Administration begins to clarify the details of the incident. They confirmed that the man, born in 1962, was treated in the neurosurgery department from October 6 to November 26. He was diagnosed with a closed craniocerebral injury and hemiparesis.
Medics' explanation
The medics claim that the man can move. During treatment, he even visited a store.
They emphasize that no one left him by the metro:
"The man without a permanent residence, from the Kherson region, was in a shelter in Yasnogorodka from which he ran away. He categorically refused to be transferred to a shelter, and this is documented," the Department of Health states.
The medics add that the man was discharged from the hospital on November 26, and he left it on his own, having received clothing, including a coat and shoes. Later, he was found by passersby on the street.
After a re-examination at the hospital, the patient was directed to the neurology department of the Kyiv City Clinical Hospital No. 18.
This situation highlights the issues within the healthcare and social protection system in Ukraine. It is important for society to pay attention to the lifeless attitude toward the most vulnerable segments of the population. The challenges faced by individuals with disabilities require not only medical but also humanitarian responsibility.
