In the last three years, Ukraine has lost 11% of its territory as a result of Russia's invasion in 2022. This information is provided in a report published by CNN.
Overall, since the beginning of the war in 2014, Ukraine has lost about 18% of its land.
«At the beginning of the war, Ukraine managed to keep Russian troops from capturing its capital, Kyiv, and achieved victories in some parts of the Kharkiv and Kherson regions. But it also suffered significant losses in the eastern areas around Donetsk and Bakhmut», the article notes.
Ukraine was able to retain and reclaim some lost territories thanks to support from Western allies.
Since the beginning of the war in 2022, the largest financial aid Ukraine has received has come from the United States - 47%. The European Union provided 32% of aid, while the remaining 20% came from other countries such as the United Kingdom, Canada, and Japan.
Russia's invasion of Ukraine began on February 24, 2022. Russian tanks invaded the territory of the Luhansk region, and Crimean checkpoints recorded the first signs of a possible conflict.
At 4:35 a.m., the RF troops attacked the international checkpoint Velika Pysarivka in the Sumy region.
Around 5:00, dozens of missile strikes were carried out across the country, including the capital Kyiv. Ukrainian border posts were shelled from the side of Russia and Belarus. President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky announced martial law.
On February 26, fierce battles took place south of Kyiv, near the city of Vasylkiv.
