The prosecutor's office in the city of Opole (Poland) has charged a policeman with excessive use of force against a Ukrainian, which led to his death. The accused faces up to five years in prison. The law enforcement officer was dismissed from his position and banned from leaving Poland. This is the first case of a death during a police arrest in the Opole Voivodeship this year.

The autopsy of the Ukrainian's body indicated that he may have died from suffocation. However, the exact cause of death can only be determined after all examinations, including a histopathological one, which will take several weeks.

The incident occurred on October 29 in the locality of Krzywizna. The Ukrainian wanted to find a job in a company, but the owner demanded payment for accommodation. When the police arrived at the scene, the Ukrainian refused to show documents and resisted arrest. As a result of the use of force, the man lost consciousness and died. The prosecutor's office rules out national hostility as the reason for excessive force.

The death of the Ukrainian citizen is under the supervision of the Ukrainian side. The circumstances of this case, including the legality of the use of force, are being investigated by the prosecutor's office in Opole.
