In winter, hair can quickly get damaged: an expert shared key rules for care.
According to ТСН: In the cold season, hair becomes particularly vulnerable due to the influence of frost, dry air, and temperature fluctuations. This leads to weakness, increased greasiness, and loss of shine.
Dermatovenerologist and cosmetologist Anna Kravchuk shared tips on proper hair care during the winter season.
Why hair suffers from the cold
At low temperatures, the blood vessels on the scalp constrict, slowing down blood circulation. As a result, hair follicles receive fewer nutrients, vitamins, and microelements, leading to their weakening and loss.
The doctor recommends wearing a natural, loose hat, and keeping long hair tucked under clothing. In winter, humidity decreases, so the ends of the hair dry out and split faster.
How to wash hair properly in the winter season
Because of wearing hats, hair can get greasier faster, so it can be washed as often as necessary – even daily. It is important to choose a gentle shampoo with a pH of 4.5-5.5, without aggressive surfactants like SLS or SLES.
The expert also notes that in winter, a regular shampoo may work worse due to changes in the hair's needs. If the result is unsatisfactory, it is worth trying another product.
The head should be washed with warm or cool water, and the towel should not be held for more than 5-7 minutes to avoid increased sebaceous gland production.
What to add to care
Cold means not only dryness but also the need for deep restoration. In winter, it is especially important to use nourishing masks, conditioners, emulsions, and serums.
Useful components to pay attention to include: propolis, royal jelly, panthenol, proteins, hyaluronic and lactic acids, argan and jojoba oils.
For very dry hair, an effective solution will be a leave-in thermal protective spray, but it should be applied in advance so that the water in the composition does not freeze in the cold.
Damaged and brittle hair will benefit from strengthening masks 1-2 times a week with a low content of proteins and keratin.
Winter hair care requires attention and a special approach. By following simple recommendations, you can maintain the health and beauty of your hair even in the coldest months. It is important not to forget about the basic procedures that will protect your hair from the negative effects of the winter climate.
