Builder from Pripyat: how Chernobyl buried the dream of a football team.
The football club 'Builder' from the city of Pripyat had big plans - to become a legend of Polesie and participate in the championship of the Ukrainian SSR. All of this was supposed to become a reality at the 'Avangard' stadium, but on April 26, 1986, the accident at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant changed everything, reports the news portal Novini.LIVE.
The team was preparing for the new tournament, but the sudden evacuation due to the disaster led to the failure of this sports project. The players' uniforms remained in the dressing rooms, but the city disappeared under a radioactive cloud, leaving only memories of its team.
What remains of 'Builder'
Today, the 'Avangard' stadium lies in ruins, engulfed by the forest. There is only one photo of the team from 1985 in the sports gallery and the faded names of the players. Some members of the team moved to Kyiv, but the 'Builder' team has long existed only in memories.
However, the memory of the vanished football club lives in the hearts of those who once were born in Pripyat. The idea of reviving a symbolic team that reminds of past dreams and victories does not fade away. Perhaps one day this team will step onto the field again to continue its story.
The Pripyat football club 'Builder' had big plans, but because of the accident at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, all these dreams were ignited in a radioactive hell. Today, only a trace remains in the history of sport that reminds of the tragic consequences of the disaster, but at the same time is sometimes marked by hope and faith in revival.Read also
