According to The Sun: Director 'Star Wars' George Lucas is preparing to open a new museum next year that looks like it came straight out of his films.

Known for the 'Star Wars' and 'Indiana Jones' franchises, Lucas is turning to art and history, creating a new attraction with cinematic artifacts and artwork in Los Angeles, USA.

The museum will feature 37,000 art objects spread over five floors.

Overview of the Museum's Creation

Known as the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art, this futuristic establishment will open in 2026, with construction having begun in 2018.

Founded by George Lucas and his wife, Mellody Hobson, the museum will house full archives of Lucas's films as well as a large number of his personal belongings.

Inside, there will be 37,000 art objects documenting the history of African American cinema.

The museum will feature luxurious galleries, two theaters, as well as spaces for learning, dining, shopping, and hosting events, including a library and a restaurant.

Visitors will enjoy paintings, photographs, cinematic, and digital works of art that reflect how narrative art influences society, shaping beliefs and expanding imagination.

Not all artifacts belong to Lucas: ancient Egyptian objects, works by Frida Kahlo and Henri Cartier-Bresson will also be exhibited here.

Among other exhibits are 'Peanuts' comics and concept art for the Batman film by Neal Adams.

The museum is also planned to feature two theaters, a library, and a restaurant.

Location and Architecture

The museum will be located on an 11-acre campus, while the building itself will occupy 300,000 square feet.

The building, resembling a spaceship, will be an architectural marvel, with over 1,500 curved panels, glass elevators, and a soaring ceiling.

The museum's design is being led by Chinese architect Ma Yansong, also known for his projects in Beijing, such as Chaoyang Square and the station in Jiaxing.

The entire attraction will be situated in the Los Angeles Exposition Park, where visitors will be able to explore various paths around the building.

Among the features of the outdoor grounds are a “hanging garden”, an amphitheater, a pedestrian bridge, and a waterfall-like fountain.

According to the museum's official website:

“The Lucas Museum demonstrates how narrative art influences societies — shaping beliefs, communicating values, inspiring imagination, and creating communities.”

“We enable people to engage with art through the captivating stories they tell.”

The museum was originally planned to open in San Francisco, then in Chicago, but ultimately Los Angeles was chosen.

It also faced a number of delays, including due to the Covid-19 pandemic, leading to two postponements of the opening date from 2021.

The museum will be located in Exposition Park, which is a 160-acre area hosting various cultural and educational attractions in the heart of Los Angeles, such as the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles and the California Science Center.
