To reach Cadaqués, one can only travel by road, as there is no railway connection. However, the time spent traveling will surely be worth it as the town offers numerous art galleries and quiet beaches.

Among its former inhabitants was the famous surrealist Salvador Dalí.

Today, his former house hosts the Salvador Dalí Museum.

The museum can be recognized by the huge egg on its roof, reflecting Dalí's fascination with eggs as symbols of life, rebirth, and purity.

Inside, you can see many eccentric objects that belonged to Dalí, as well as his surreal decor.

Among the unusual exhibits is a life-sized bear holding a lamp in the hallway, the artist's bedroom with a mirrored layout, and a luxurious pool in the shape of lips.

The house consists of several fishing cottages that Dalí combined over the years, creating a labyrinth-like structure.

Dalí also attracted other artists to Cadaqués, including Pablo Picasso and David Hockney.

Contemporary Cultural Life of the City

Today, about 60 artists live in Cadaqués, and galleries are located throughout the town.

For historians, there is also a wonderful historic part with narrow cobbled streets offering cozy shops.

You must visit the Church of St. Mary, towering over the city, featuring an ornate baroque altar with 365 golden statues.

Even if you are not interested in churches, it is an excellent spot for breathtaking coastal views.

The town also has wonderful beaches, such as the Ros Beach.

Although this beach, like many others in Cadaqués, is covered with small pebbles instead of sand, it has become a favorite vacation spot for the Dalí family.

There is parking near the beach, and the water is very shallow, making it an ideal place for swimming.

One visitor said: “I love this little rocky beach with excellent views of the water leading to Cadaqués.”

Drink prices at the beach are reasonable, and there are many snack bars nearby.

Active Recreation and Restaurants

For active leisure enthusiasts, there is the nature reserve of Cap de Creus Peninsula with various hiking trails that lead along the rocky coast and offer stunning views.

One of the popular restaurants in town is El Barroco, which received the Traveller’s Choice Award for 2025. It offers homemade Lebanese cuisine, including chicken skewers for €23 (£20.06).

For dessert, you can have sugared figs with nuts and whiskey for €7 (£6.11).

In the central bay, there are many snack bars, such as Coctelería Boia Nit, where a glass of wine costs just €4 (£3.49).
