Kyiv Bans Heavy Trucks at City Entrances as Temperatures Surpass 28°C.
Restrictions on Heavy Vehicle Traffic in Kyiv
According to Novyny.live: Kyiv has imposed traffic restrictions on heavy trucks due to extreme heat, with air temperatures exceeding +28°C. At the city's entry points, the movement of trucks weighing over 24 tons has been blocked. The Kyiv City State Administration made this decision to prevent damage to road surfaces.
The restrictions also apply to vehicles with an axle load exceeding 7 tons. Due to record-breaking heat, which on some days reaches +34°C, the municipal corporation 'Kyivavtodor' deploys up to 50 units of specialized equipment daily. Water-spraying trucks operate on both district and city-wide roads to moisten the pavement and reduce heat-related wear.
Safety Measures in Place
These measures are designed not only to preserve road conditions but also to ensure the safety of all traffic participants during the hot weather.
Implementing such restrictions is part of local authorities' efforts to manage road infrastructure during extreme weather events. Preserving infrastructure and ensuring road safety remain top priorities for the Kyiv City State Administration, especially in summer when high temperatures can degrade asphalt quality. These actions may also help avoid costly road repairs that could result from heat-induced damage.
