Ukrainian Defense Forces and the Russian Army Offensive

According to UATV: Between March 17 and 20, 2023, Ukraine’s defense forces successfully thwarted a major offensive by the Russian military, inflicting heavy losses on the enemy. Military commander Oleksandr Syrskyi reported a notable surge in Russian offensive operations during this period.

Over those four days, the Russian army carried out a total of 619 assault operations. The Pokrovsk sector saw 163 attacks, the Aleksandrovsk sector recorded 96, and the Kostiantynivka sector experienced 84 assault actions. This heightened activity underscores the increased pressure Russian forces are applying to Ukrainian positions.

  • Enemy losses over the four-day period exceeded 6,090 personnel.
  • Weekly enemy casualties amounted to approximately 8,710 personnel.
“Over four days of intense assault operations, the enemy lost more than 6,090 soldiers killed and wounded,” stated Oleksandr Syrskyi.

On March 22, 2023, the front line witnessed 134 combat engagements.

Syrskyi also emphasized that Ukrainian forces were prepared for the escalation in Russian offensive intensity:

“We were ready for the increased intensity of the Russian horde’s offensive,” said Oleksandr Syrskyi.
His remarks highlight the determination of Ukrainian troops to continue resisting aggression.

In sum, Ukraine’s defense forces have proven their ability to effectively counter heightened enemy attacks and maintain control of the frontline situation.

The relevance of these events underscores the intensity of military operations in eastern Ukraine, where both sides are vying for strategic initiative. Having suffered substantial personnel losses, the Russian army will likely need to reassess its tactics in the coming days. Meanwhile, Ukrainian forces, while remaining prepared for further assaults, are strengthening their positions—a sign of growing resilience and adaptability under mounting enemy pressure.
