Kyiv Assassination Plot Thwarted: $100,000 Bounty Offered for Ukrainian Intelligence Officer Leads to Intermediary’s Arrest.
Ex-Military Man Apprehended
According to Novyny.live: A 34-year-old former soldier has been taken into custody by law enforcement for orchestrating a plot to assassinate a senior official from Ukraine’s Main Intelligence Directorate in Kyiv. The suspect acted as a liaison between Russian intelligence services and the crime’s organizer. According to investigators, the Russian side promised a $100,000 reward for carrying out the murder.
On June 18, authorities executed a court-approved search at the suspect’s residence in the Kyiv region. During the operation, they seized a mobile phone and other physical evidence linking him to the assassination scheme. Based on the gathered materials, the individual has been formally charged with preparing a contract killing.
Investigation and National Security Concerns
A court has ordered the suspect to be held in pretrial detention, underscoring the severity of his intentions and the threat he posed. The investigation is ongoing, aiming to uncover all details of the case and identify any accomplices.
This incident highlights the escalating risk of terrorist acts orchestrated by foreign intelligence agencies, particularly amid the current political tensions in the region. The arrest of the former serviceman demonstrates that Ukrainian law enforcement is actively responding to national security threats, working to detect and neutralize potential dangers before they can materialize.
