Classified data on operations approved by Russian dictator Vladimir Putin has been released by the USA. Bloomberg reports this.

The Office of the Director of National Intelligence of the USA has declassified a report on the assassinations of Putin's political opponents, such as Alexander Litvinenko and Viktor Yushchenko.

According to estimates, the first case when Putin ordered an assassination abroad occurred in 2004 in Qatar, where Russian intelligence officers were convicted for the murder of Chechen leader Zelimkhan Yangulbiev.

The report also mentions the assassination of Alexander Litvinenko in 2006, which was almost certainly ordered by Moscow, but there is insufficient direct evidence.

The Kremlin also pursues defectors and dissidents, including discussions about the case of Alexander Perepilichny, who was killed in the UK in 2012 using a biological toxin.

Representatives of American intelligence expressed concern about Russia's ability to carry out killings using chemical and biological agents.

The Kremlin may also have planned to target political and opposition leaders in critically important countries, including Viktor Yushchenko.

Putin likely allowed Ramzan Kadyrov to independently kill Chechens abroad.
