USA has raised tariffs on India to 50%: what is the reason for the drastic decision.
According to FREEДOM:
The USA has increased tariffs on Indian goods
The USA has raised tariffs on Indian goods to 50%. This decision was signed by President Donald Trump, according to FREEДОМ, citing Bloomberg.
Washington is taking these measures to punish New Delhi for purchasing Russian oil, which finances the war in Ukraine. The new tariffs took effect this morning and will affect over 55% of India's exports to the USA, which is the largest market for the country.
The visit of the Prime Minister of India to China
Additionally, it is worth noting that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit China for the first time in more than seven years at the end of August. This visit will take place against the backdrop of rising tensions in relations between India and the USA. Modi is expected to participate in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit, which will begin on August 31.
Thus, the new tariffs on Indian goods have become another stage in trade relations between the USA and India in the context of global economic and political challenges. Narendra Modi's visit to China may prove to be an important step in the context of potential strengthening of regional cooperation in response to these changes.
