Paris has initiated crucial negotiations on security guarantees for Ukraine.
According to ТСН: A vital stage of negotiations regarding the end of the war in Ukraine has begun in Paris. Key allies of Kyiv, along with representatives of Donald Trump's administration, are discussing a draft of future security guarantees.
According to reports, the main goal of the plan is to create multinational support forces led by Europe, to which the United States will provide intelligence, logistics, and technical support. An important point of the agreement is the commitment of the USA to act as a so-called 'backstop', guaranteeing support for these forces and Ukraine in the event of possible attacks from Russia.
The meeting at the Élysée Palace has gathered leaders of key countries, including Emmanuel Macron, Volodymyr Zelensky, Friedrich Merz, and Keir Starmer. From the American side, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner are participating, indicating the active involvement of Trump's team in this process.
It is noted that the plan includes not only monitoring the ceasefire but also systemic support for the Ukrainian army. European officials consider the US proposal for intelligence and military assistance a significant breakthrough that allies have been waiting for over the past year.
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney emphasized that the details of the agreement may still change, and the discussions in Paris are unlikely to become final. The main issue causing disputes remains the territorial demands of the Kremlin regarding Donbas, which Zelensky firmly rejects. The terms of the guarantees are also being discussed: Ukraine insists on long-term commitments for 50 years, while the current draft proposes a 15-year term with the possibility of extension.
The situation is complicated by the overall geopolitical climate, including new disputes between the USA and Europe regarding Greenland and recent actions by Washington in Venezuela. This creates additional tension in NATO; however, European leaders are trying to maintain unity concerning the Ukrainian issue.
Currently, according to media reports, the main achievement is considered to be the readiness of the USA to provide mandatory security guarantees, which should form the basis for a ceasefire and realize Trump's ambitions for a quick end to the conflict.
What is known about the 'coalition of the willing'
Today in France, a meeting of the 'coalition of the willing' has commenced, which will be attended by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky.
Over 30 officials from different countries will join this meeting. The USA will be represented by the emissaries of American leader Donald Trump – Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.
It was reported that new head of the President's Office Kyrylo Budanov arrived at the summit in Paris alongside Zelensky.
The United States believes that achievements regarding security guarantees for Ukraine are close.
According to insiders, the parties have come closer to agreeing on a package of several key documents that will determine the format of the ceasefire and post-war security guarantees.
Thus, the negotiations in Paris are of enormous significance for the future of Ukraine. They may mark the beginning of a new stage of cooperation with international partners, which in turn can significantly impact the situation in the region. However, the success of these negotiations will depend on the ability of all parties to reach a compromise and find a common solution for lasting peace.
