Comments from the US Secretary of State

According to Novyny.live: US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has stated that the United States is not attempting to compel any party to accept a peace deal regarding the war in Ukraine, but rather aims to assist in resolving the conflict. These remarks were made during a joint press conference with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban. The US has consistently positioned itself as a key diplomatic actor in the conflict, seeking to support a resolution without imposing terms.

Rubio also highlighted a significant recent development:

“For the first time in several years, military representatives from both sides met at a technical level in the Middle East last week, and we will resume these talks in Geneva later this week.”

Geneva Talks to Resume

The resumption of negotiations is scheduled for February 17 in Geneva, Switzerland, where a third round of trilateral talks between Ukraine, the US, and Russia will take place. Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, Rustem Umerov, reported that the Ukrainian delegation has already arrived in Switzerland.

In this way, the United States continues to play an active part in peace initiatives, underscoring its role in the negotiations between Ukraine and Russia. Rubio summarized the US position:

“We are not trying to force anyone to agree to a deal they do not want. We simply want to help them.”

The revival of talks in Geneva between Ukraine, the US, and Russia signals the intent of international partners to promote de-escalation of the conflict in Ukraine. This could become a significant step in exploring pathways to peace in the region, especially given that military representatives from both sides have already met to discuss technical aspects. Observers note that the active US involvement in this process may influence future agreements and their implementation.
