The USA and Ukraine will soon begin negotiations in Saudi Arabia: what issues will be discussed.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio arrived in Saudi Arabia for talks with the Ukrainian delegation
On March 10, 2025, Marco Rubio, the US Secretary of State, arrived in Saudi Arabia for negotiations with the Ukrainian delegation regarding possible terms of a peace agreement with Russia.
Upon arrival, the American official stated his intention to 'resolve' the issue of ending US aid to Kyiv.
Following the conflict in the White House at the end of February, Washington intensified pressure on Ukraine by halting military aid and intelligence sharing. The agreement between Ukraine and the US regarding minerals has also not yet been signed.
The Ukrainian delegation at the talks is represented by Andriy Yermak, head of the President's Office, Minister of Foreign Affairs Andriy Sibiga, Minister of Defense Rustem Umerov, and Deputy Head of the President's Office Pavlo Palisa. From the US side, National Security Advisor Mike Waltz and Secretary of State Marco Rubio attended the meeting.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has also arrived in Saudi Arabia to meet with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. According to sources familiar with the Ukrainian delegation's position, Kyiv will propose establishing a maritime ceasefire and banning long-range strikes, as well as insisting on the release of prisoners. 'This can be quickly implemented and controlled,' noted the interlocutor.
The US Ambassador to the Middle East, Steve Vitkoff, expressed hope for 'substantial progress' in the negotiations during an interview with Fox News. 'I really hope so. All signs are very, very positive,' Vitkoff said regarding the possibility of signing a mineral agreement. The American side also plans to discuss security issues for Ukrainians, territorial problems, and intelligence sharing.
