Weakness exposed: Sybiha slams US decision to remove three Russian vessels from sanctions list.
Three Russian ships delisted by US Treasury
According to UATV: On April 1, the U.S. Department of Finance removed three Russian-flagged vessels from the Specially Designated Nationals and Blocked Persons (SDN List). The move covers two container ships and one dry cargo vessel that had previously been subject to secondary sanctions. This marks a notable shift in the enforcement of sanctions against Russia.
Ukraine’s response
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha quickly condemned the decision, calling it a sign of weakness. Speaking at a joint press conference with Irish Foreign Minister Helen McEntee, Sybiha stressed that sustained pressure is essential for progress in peace negotiations. He stated:
“Ukraine’s position remains unchanged. To achieve progress in the peace process, pressure must increase.” - Andrii Sybiha
The delisting has raised alarm in Ukraine, as it could undermine international efforts to maintain pressure on Moscow amid the ongoing conflict. Such decisions may alter the broader sanctions landscape, potentially shifting strategic leverage in future talks. How the United States and its allies proceed will be critical in shaping the next phase of diplomatic engagement, with Ukraine closely watching for any further changes.
