It became known when the mine clearance division will start operating in the Black Sea.
Ukraine has a mine clearance division for demining the Black Sea area
Ukraine has begun to form a mine clearance division consisting of five ships, designated for demining the Black Sea area. This was reported by the spokesman of the Naval Forces (Navy) Dmitry Pletenchuk.
Pletenchuk noted that among the ships of the division are imported equipment, including Alkmaar and Sandown (of British origin) and Alkmaar, provided by Belgium and the Netherlands. This division will engage in demining the area, which is crucial for the development of the Ukrainian economy, particularly maritime exports.
In addition to the mine clearance division, new corvettes are planned to be built to secure the Black Sea area and cooperate with other ships. Demining the area is a constant process, however, special attention is currently being paid to supporting the grain corridor, civilian shipping, and navigation.
The mine clearance division will be ready for active operations in the Black Sea only after the official end of the Russian-Ukrainian war and the establishment of a secure environment for conducting operations.
The Ministry of Economy of Ukraine previously reported that over $29.8 billion is needed for the demining of territories. Given the duration of the process, it is important to maintain capacity and develop partnerships with international organizations specializing in mine action.
