Incredible spectacle in Costa Rica
According to The Sun: Kayakers in Costa Rica witnessed an enthralling moment when a whale and its calf leaped out of the water nearby.

Humpbacks repeatedly jumped out of the water, mesmerizing the kayakers
The group 'Mamawata Surf Retreat' spotted the whales and their calf on August 23. Before heading out onto the water, they hoped to see whales while kayaking at Playa Escondido, and their hopes were fulfilled.
They recorded impressive video showing the humpbacks jumping right next to them, breathtaking them.
At the beginning of the video, two whales leap out of the water just a few meters away from the kayakers before diving back down. As the larger whale rises out of the water, it creates waves that crash onto the kayakers.
Group participants, looking at the camera, could hardly contain their excitement at what they witnessed.
They continued to watch, hoping for another glimpse of the whales that clearly put on a show.
Kayakers thrilled by what they saw
Humpbacks are often spotted in the Pacific Ocean off Costa Rica
One participant from 'Mamawata Surf Retreat' shared the video on Instagram with the following words:
“We secretly hoped to see whales as my boyfriend and I had seen them from our home over the past few days. But honestly, we had no expectations. What we didn’t know was that this mother and her calf were about to put on a show for us!”
“At first, they were just swimming and coming to the surface next to us, and then it happened!”
The video quickly went viral, racking up over a million views, and users flooded the comments with excitement.
“Beautiful and very lucky! I only had the chance to see this once, it was the best experience of my life on the water,” one commenter wrote.
“Kayaking among such magnificent creatures is an incredible experience,” added another.
A third commenter noted: “Incredible! This must have been an unforgettable adventure!”
Humpback whales often migrate in the waters of the Pacific Ocean off Costa Rica, but witnessing their jumps up close is rare. Costa Rica becomes home to two populations of humpbacks from the Northern and Southern Hemispheres each year. During the winter months from December to March, humpback whales that feed near the Northwest of the USA migrate to the tropical waters of Costa Rica, where they breed and give birth to their young. In the summer, from July to mid-November, those feeding in Antarctica make the longest migration to the southern Chilean waters to breed in the warmer waters of Costa Rica.
