Due to shelling and the evacuation of the population in the Sumy region, repairs to the sidewalk in the city center are ongoing. Work began on June 5, 2025, on Voskresenska Street. The Infrastructure Department of the Sumy City Council has commissioned the repairs from an entrepreneur with 12 years of experience, with a total contract value of 199,958 UAH.
Local residents and guests of Sumy express negative opinions regarding the ongoing repairs in the downtown area amid military actions. They believe that this money could be better spent on ensuring the safety of the population near the front line.
According to 'Glavkom', the latest shelling by Russian forces in Sumy resulted in the deaths of six people, including a 17-year-old boy.
Despite the importance of repairing the sidewalk, local residents are expressing their positions regarding the use of funds during wartime, when the safety of the population is a priority. Infrastructure repairs leave an urgent need for effective resource allocation and careful consideration of citizens' needs amid armed conflict.
