Supermarkets or markets: Ukrainians were shown where young potatoes have sharply decreased in price.
Ukrainian supermarkets are not lagging behind traditional markets in prices for young potatoes. The average price in supermarkets is 62.73 UAH per kilogram, while market prices range from 70 to 80 UAH per kg.
Prices in supermarkets have fallen by 30% over the past month. For example, Megamarket offers potatoes for 55.90 UAH per kg, Metro - for 62.30 UAH, and the highest price is at Novus, 69.99 UAH per kg.
Price decreases and increases over the year
In May, prices in supermarkets reached 124.28 UAH per kg. Over the year, potato prices have more than tripled - from 24 UAH per kg last June to the current 69 UAH.
The import potato market
Imported potatoes from Egypt and Turkey are sold for 30 to 40 UAH per kg, however, Ukrainians prefer domestic products with exquisite taste. Market forecasts vary: some expect that prices will drop to 50-55 UAH per kg by the end of summer, while others predict a possible price increase to 30 UAH per kg in the fall.
Young potatoes are sold to Ukrainian supermarkets at lower prices than in traditional markets. Over the past year, prices have changed significantly, and forecasts about how they may develop in the future have been made. Despite competition from imported potatoes, Ukrainians prefer domestic products.Read also
