Which products became more expensive at the beginning of 2026: a review of prices for vegetables and fruits

According to ТСН: In Ukrainian markets for fruit and vegetable products, there is a gradual increase in prices and a change in the structure of demand at the beginning of 2026. Although the activity of traders has not fully recovered after the New Year holidays, the market shows signs of revival.

This information is confirmed by an analysis of trading platforms in the region for the second week of 2026, prepared by experts from EastFruit.

Vegetables: cabbage is back in the lead

White cabbage is in the highest demand, even despite its reduced supply, similar to other “borsch vegetables”. The supply of Beijing cabbage has also decreased compared to the end of 2025.

Broccoli and radishes, as well as red cabbage from Ukraine and Uzbekistan, are being actively purchased. Cauliflower and red onions are also in good demand.

Among the most sought-after goods are apples, carrots, and onions. Additionally, the supply of potatoes, beets, and cabbage is very popular.

Fruits: apples maintain their lead, persimmons lose ground

Apples remain the leaders of the fruit market, supplied from four countries. However, the supply of apples and grapes has decreased compared to the pre-New Year period.

Meanwhile, the supply of pears has increased, actively sold by Ukrainian suppliers. Sales of persimmons from Uzbekistan have decreased by more than three times, while the export of Azerbaijani persimmons to Ukraine has increased by 40% over the 10 months of 2025.

Prices in Ukraine: what has become more expensive and what has become cheaper

At the beginning of the year, vegetable prices in Ukraine traditionally rise. The decrease in the supply of lower-quality products has led to an increase in prices for white cabbage and onions. Against the backdrop of rising demand, prices for greenhouse vegetables have also increased.

Broccoli, cauliflower, and Beijing cabbage have become more expensive compared to the end of 2025. Prices for radishes and greens have also risen. The only item that has become cheaper is red cabbage, which is linked to an increase in its supply.

As for the fruit segment, here prices show a mixed trend. Apples and pears have become cheaper while grapes have become more expensive. Prices for avocados have decreased, while those for mandarins have risen. The price range for pomegranates has widened, while it has narrowed for oranges.

In the first half of 2026, Ukrainians can expect an ambiguous price situation: high-fat dairy products and some vegetables will become cheaper, but bread, eggs, and greenhouse vegetables will continue to rise in price. The main factors affecting the pricing situation remain the cost of electricity, weather conditions, and the real purchasing power of the population, experts emphasize.

Overall, the market for fruit and vegetable products continues to change under the influence of demand and supply. Consumers can expect certain price fluctuations in the coming months, which will require them to be flexible in product selection and budget management. Experts advise closely monitoring market changes in order to be prepared for future price trends.
