Siewieryna Hieorhijewna Cichanouska - a Belarusian political activist, opposition leader in Belarus, candidate for the presidency of the Republic of Belarus in the elections on August 9, 2020. Co-organizer of the Coordination Council for the change of power in Belarus.
Place of birth. Education. She was born on September 11, 1982, in Mikaszewicze, Luninetsk District, Brest Region, Belarus. In 2000, she graduated from high school No. 2 in Mikaszewicze with a gold medal. She obtained a degree at the Philological Faculty of the Mozyr State Pedagogical University, specializing in 'Foreign Languages (English, German)'.
Career. After graduating from university, she lived in Homel. She worked as an English translator in various organizations, including the charity organization 'Chernobyl Life Line' (Ireland), which helped victims of the Chernobyl disaster.

Political career. On May 15, 2020, after the refusal of the Central Election Commission of Belarus to register an initiative group to collect signatures in support of her husband Siarhei Tsikhanouski's candidacy, Siewieryna Cichanouska submitted documents to register an initiative group to nominate her candidacy for president. Her husband Siarhei is the leader of Siewieryna Cichanouska's initiative group.
On May 29, 2020, an action to collect signatures in support of Siewieryna Cichanouska's nomination for the presidency of the Republic of Belarus took place in Grodno, during which Siarhei Tsikhanouski, the coordinator of the initiative group Dmitry Furmanov, and others were arrested. In total, 10 people were arrested. Subsequent actions of collecting signatures in support of Siewieryna Cichanouska created a queue in Minsk and other cities of Belarus. On July 19, 2020, the first action of Siewieryna Cichanouska was held in Minsk after her headquarters merged with the teams of former head of the bank Belhazprombank Viktor Babaryka and former head of the high-tech park, diplomat Valery Tsapkalo, who were refused registration by the CEC. The Human Rights Center 'Viasna' reported that about 7,500 people participated in the action.
On July 30, 2020, an action of support for Siewieryna Cichanouska took place in Minsk. It was attended by 63,000 participants. This is the largest number of people that have gathered in the Belarusian capital since the protests in December 2010.
On August 9, 2020, presidential elections were held in Belarus. Observers reported numerous violations; some people were unable to vote due to huge queues at polling stations, where a limited number of voters were admitted. The center of Minsk was blocked by security officers, and the city cut off communication and internet. People in many cities of the country went out to protest, and security officers arrested them. In Minsk, on the Victory Avenue near the stela, a vehicle crashed into a crowd and hit a person.
