Canada aims for exemplary support for Ukraine - MP's statement.
Canada provides its unwavering support to Ukraine
The Chair of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development of the House of Commons of Canada, Ali Ehsassi, announced Canada's intention to more actively support Ukraine and hopes this will become a model for other countries. He stated this in an interview with Ukrinform.
Ehsassi emphasized that the Government of Canada will unconditionally support Ukraine. He stressed the importance of other countries becoming allies of Ukraine and assisting it during this difficult period.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau also expressed his willingness to do everything possible.
However, Ehsassi noted that Canada cannot make decisions about peace with Russia on behalf of Ukraine. The country is ready to consult and raise relevant issues, but the final decision should rest with the Ukrainian government.
Ehsassi emphasized that the leading role in the peace process must remain with Ukraine. Other countries can advise and consult, but the decision must be made by Ukraine itself.
He also noted that Ukraine has demonstrated its intentions towards achieving peace. Despite Vladimir Putin's motives, it is important for Canada to focus on the possibility of achieving peace.
