Moldovan Border Crossings Reopen After Power Outage, But Miles of Backups Remain on Odessa-Reni Route.
Aftermath of a Technical Failure in Moldova
According to Novyny.live: While a technical failure that halted operations at Moldova's border checkpoints has been resolved, severe traffic jams stretching for kilometers persist on the Odessa-Reni highway. The disruption was caused by an emergency power outage, which has now been fixed. All checkpoints are currently operating normally, and restrictions on freight transport have been lifted.
Despite the resumption of border operations, significant congestion is being reported. There are no queues to exit Ukraine at the 'Reni — Giurgiulești' checkpoint, but a backlog has formed for vehicles entering. Traffic backups leading to the 'Palanca' and 'Starokozache — Tudora' crossings now extend for several kilometers. Furthermore, difficult driving conditions are being recorded on the M-15 highway near Tatarbunary, Brossy, and Izmail.
During the outage, some customs procedures had to be conducted manually, which further slowed the processing of vehicles. The situation on the roads remains tense, and drivers should be prepared for lengthy delays. This incident highlights the region's reliance on stable cross-border infrastructure for trade and transit.
The Critical Need for Infrastructure Stability
The technical failure in Moldova, which caused significant delays at border crossings, underscores how vital reliable infrastructure is for smooth international transport. Although restoring checkpoint operations is a positive step, the enduring traffic jams point to a clear need for improvements in both transport infrastructure and customs procedures. Drivers planning trips through this area should factor these potential delays into their schedules.
