Terekhov on the New Energy of Ukraine: Why We Cannot Do Without Nuclear Reactors.
According to ТСН: In a recent interview on Radio NV, important questions regarding the energy architecture of Ukraine were discussed. The mayor of Kharkiv noted that 'we need to build a new energy architecture not only for Kharkiv but for the whole country. I proposed starting this work back in 2022. This is a matter of national security, as we must understand: if there is no energy, there is nothing. We understand this like no one else, as we have found ourselves in blackouts several times.'
Restoration of the Energy System
According to Terekhov, the restoration of the energy system is becoming increasingly difficult due to significant destruction: heat power plants, transformer substations, and other key elements have been destroyed. 'Overall, the IMF and the Kyiv School of Economics have estimated the damages to Ukraine's energy sector from the full-scale war with the Russian Federation at over 56 billion dollars.'
Prospects of Alternative Energy
Terekhov emphasized the need to place energy facilities underground for their protection, noting: 'No matter how many protective structures we build, if powerful missiles, which the Russians have, are aimed at one point - no bunker will withstand this.' He highlighted the importance of transitioning to alternative energy in the future when there are 'clear guarantees of non-aggression from the Russian Federation.'
Additionally, he pointed out the need for the development of nuclear energy, particularly modern technologies: 'This is very important for the whole of Ukraine, as it is the cheapest energy. If we want to quickly rebuild the economy and provide opportunities for investors and entrepreneurs to develop - they need energy. Without it, we cannot move forward.'
In particular, he stressed: 'For people, this will mean relatively affordable tariffs. Moreover, in the future, we will be able to export electricity, which is a revenue part of Ukraine's budget.'
Discussing these issues is extremely relevant, as the restoration of Ukraine's energy infrastructure will determine not only the stability of the economy but also the energy security of the country in the face of the constant threat from the aggressor. Attracting investments in modern technologies and alternative energy sources can become a guarantee of economic growth and further development of Ukraine.
