Affordable winter resorts

According to The Sun: For those planning winter holidays at reasonable prices, Hoi An in Vietnam should be considered. This picturesque town has become the best budget travel destination for 2025.

Hoi An surpassed Cape Town in South Africa thanks to a convenient set of tourist services costing only £58.81, which is less than sixty pounds for food, drinks, and basic expenses.

This ancient trading port is famous for its lantern-lit canals, and just a few minutes from the historic center, one can find wonderful beaches with seafood and cold beer at affordable prices.

Cheap destinations in Asia

Vietnam is not the only place to save. Asia has seven out of the ten cheapest destinations, according to the annual Post Office Travel Money report on long trips. In some popular locations, prices have decreased by almost 19 percent.

This period is expected to be favorable for Britons looking to escape the winter chill.

With a stable exchange rate for the pound against most foreign currencies and the decrease in local prices, more than two-thirds of long-haul destinations have become cheaper compared to last year.

In Malaysia, prices in Penang fell by 18.6%, while in Thailand, Phuket saw a decrease of 14.1%. Even in the Caribbean, discounts are observed, particularly in Barbados, where expenses dropped by 18.8% – the highest among all surveyed destinations.

“The outlook for those seeking summer sun looks bright,” said Laura Plunkett, head of travel services at the Post Office, “especially in Far Eastern countries where the combination of falling local prices and favorable exchange rates means our money can buy more.'

She explained that, although the pound has decreased from its peak value at the beginning of the year, it still remains stronger against most currencies compared to last year.

“Local prices are stable in most surveyed destinations, and in over 40% of them, a decrease is observed,” she added.

Situation with other destinations

A study that examined expenses in 30 long-distance travel destinations showed that Cape Town, while having dropped to second place, remains a very affordable option at £64.28 for basic tourist services.

Bali holds third place with a cost of £67.79 and offers the cheapest dinner – a three-course meal for two, including wine, for just £35.48.

Also in the top five are Mombasa in Kenya (£68.33) and Tokyo in Japan (£68.61).

For those planning to visit the Indian subcontinent, keep an eye on the capital of Sri Lanka, Colombo, which has surpassed Delhi as a more affordable option. Prices there have decreased by 5.4% to £73.93, while prices in Delhi have increased by 4.6% to £85.89.

However, not all destinations are favorable on prices.

Sharm El Sheikh in Egypt saw a significant price jump of 41.5%, dropping seven positions. This occurred due to the pound's decline by 18% against the Egyptian pound, as well as rising local prices. The cost of a basic expense set at £110.21 is nearly twice as high as expenses in Vietnam.

If you plan to visit the Seychelles, be prepared to spend more. Mahé Island has become the most expensive destination with a cost of £187.57 – more than three times the cost compared to Hoi An.

A dinner for two with wine will cost you £129.88.

Dubai has dropped by 11.1%, and Darwin in Australia by 10.1%, although it remains expensive at £141.13.
