50 Free Events in Britain: Where to Go with Kids This Autumn.

We've gathered 50 budget-friendly events and activities across the UK to entertain the kids. Most of them are free, but check if you need to book in advance or pay for parking.
YORKSHIRE AND THE NORTH EAST
AlamyThe famous Blackpool Illuminations are open for visits until January 4, with additional lights from the World Fireworks Championships on September 13 and 27.1. The sky and buildings will light up during Light Night Leeds on October 22-23, when the city center transforms into a vibrant evening artwork. Entry is free.
2. Meet the scariest residents of York at Ghosts in the Gardens - a trail featuring 45 spooky mesh sculptures extending beyond the Museum Gardens. This will run from September 19 to November 2. Entry is free.
3. Create mysterious lanterns using jam jars, exploring the benefits of recycling with Groundwork NE & Cumbria on October 19 at The Land of Iron & Oak near Newcastle. Workshops at 2:00 PM and 3:00 PM are free, but pre-registration is required.
4. The Eco-Power Stadium in Doncaster invites you to a fireworks festival on November 1 starting at 5 PM, with a children's show before the main event. Tickets are £3 when purchased in advance, and entry for children under 1 meter is free, with discounts for season ticket holders and groups.
5. Choose the perfect pumpkin at Oxford Farm Pumpkin Patch in Berwick-upon-Tweed, Northumberland, open October 11-12, 18-19 and 25-29. Free entry, no booking required - just pay for the pumpkins you take home.
6. Discover seasonal art activities and autumn trails across 500 acres of the Yorkshire Sculpture Park near Wakefield, featuring a new exhibition of mythical creatures by Jordi Kervik. Entry costs £9 for adults, free for youth under 18 and for parking.
7. Strange creatures will descend upon Sheffield city center for the annual Out of This World festival on October 26 from 10:30 AM to 5:30 PM. Expect sci-fi, gaming, and fantasy zones, as well as a Halloween area with illusionists. Entry is free, costumes are welcome.
THE NORTH WEST
8. Scary creatures take over Manchester during MCR Monsters from October 25 to 31, starting with a two-day 'Halloween in the City'. Expect live performances, DJs, storytelling, and the monster parade Walk the Plank.
9. Introduce the kids to Roman warriors who inspired the TV show at the Gladiators of Britain exhibition at Grosvenor Museum in Chester from September 20 to January 25. Entry is free.
10. This year's theme for Light Up Lancaster is 'In One Eye's Moment' so expect metamorphoses and illusions in projections and installations. Entry is free, from November 6 to 8, from 5 PM to 9 PM.
11. The famous Blackpool Illuminations will be open until January 4, with additional lights from the World Fireworks Championships on September 13 and 27 and October 11, from 7:30 PM, weather permitting.
12. Liverpool Museum will be invaded by Viking warriors on November 1-2, when the Viking Takeover occurs with live history reenactors and authentic crafts from that era.
