Simplification of visa regulations for tourists from the UK

According to The Sun: Sri Lanka, a popular tourist destination, has announced the cancellation of complex visa requirements for British travelers.

The country, smaller than Ireland, has announced the simplification of the visa process by replacing the traditional visa with an electronic visa (ETA).

For Britons, the cost of a tourist visa to Sri Lanka was 50 dollars (37.81 pounds) for a monthly visa.

Now tourists can take advantage of the new simplified ETA process, which costs 20 dollars (15.02 pounds) and allows a stay in the country for 30 days.

This new visa is suitable for visitors planning a vacation, sightseeing, visiting friends or relatives, or participating in sports events.

ETA will come into effect on October 15, 2025, to simplify entry procedures and strengthen border security.

Among the requirements for obtaining an ETA is the presence of a return ticket, which must be confirmed at the border (for air travel), as well as showing sufficient funds to cover expenses during the stay in the country.

As with most electronic visas, visitors are not permitted to work in Sri Lanka, whether paid or unpaid, during their stay.

This island has surpassed many other beautiful places like Moorea in French Polynesia and the Galapagos Islands.

Other mentions included the Seychelles, Madeira, Koh Lipe in Thailand, and Milos in Greece.

Travel editor Kara Godfrey visited the island in 2023 and confirmed its incredibleness.

The island is famous for its herds of elephants, tea plantations, award-winning hotels, and delicious spicy food.

Kara added: 'You can also catch a cricket game, which remains an important part of the culture following the British colonization of the island.'
'Britons can even drive on the left, so getting around the island by car is very convenient.'
'There are also award-winning hotels on the island, such as Cape Weligama, often cited as one of the best hotels in the world.'
