Avanti launches trains through the Yorkshire Dales: the first time in 10 years.
Restoration of train services on a popular route
According to The Sun: Trains will once again run on one of the most picturesque railway routes in England, connecting Settle and Carlisle, for the first time in over ten years.
AlamyFor the last ten years, this route has not been used by Avanti West Coast trains but has been actively serviced by Northern trains.
The restoration of services will take place in 2026 due to railway works. From January 1 to 14 this year, Avanti West Coast trains will once again run on the route.
This is related to the replacement of the Clifton Bridge, which spans the M6 motorway. During the works, trains will be diverted to a closed route.
On the new route, two trains per hour will depart from Preston to Carlisle, passing through Settle-Carlisle. Passengers will be able to enjoy picturesque views, including the Yorkshire Dales and the North Pennines.
“We are working together as an industry to keep passengers on trains and minimize disruption during our planned engineering updates. This diversionary route is a testament to our collaboration,” said Phil James, Director of the North West Route for Network Rail.
“It’s fantastic that we can offer passengers a real diversionary route with minimal delays while essential upgrades are underway.”
Other beautiful railway routes in Great Britain
Another picturesque route in Great Britain can be found on the Cumbrian coast. It passes over the viaduct at Mawddach, the longest in Wales, and runs past Barmouth along the beach.
Tom Cheshire, who traveled 4000 miles by train across Great Britain, shared his favorite route: “This five-mile route takes just 10 minutes. It connects St Erth and St Ives in Cornwall, and for the best views, be sure to sit on the right side.”
“It runs high above the cliffs, with sandy coves visible below and offers stunning views of the coastline.”

The restoration of services on this route has been a significant event as it attracts the attention of many tourists and railway enthusiasts. For the first time in many years, passengers will be able to enjoy traveling on one of the most beautiful railway lines in England and learn more about the picturesque landscapes of the region.
It is noteworthy that such improvements and upgrades to the track not only ensure convenience but also the safety of travel. Thanks to the joint efforts of the railway infrastructure, more people will soon be able to take advantage of this scenic route.
