So, where are the best places to stargaze?

Sophie Svyetochovska shares her favorite dark sky spots for thrilling night observations.

SNOWDONIA

Snowdonia National Park, an International Dark Sky Reserve, is perfect for tourists, as the trails provide stunning views at dusk.

To see the Milky Way and possibly even shooting stars, head to the Lllyn and Dywarchen viewpoint located 12 miles from Betws-y-Coed—the gateway to Snowdonia.

By day, the views of the serene lake are stunning, and on a clear night, you can enjoy the twinkling of the skies.

If you don't want to freeze in the cold, book a stay at the White Roses Retreat twin cottage in the nearby village of Penmachno.

The garden has a hot tub—perfect for romantic evenings and stargazing while soaking.

Cost: Five nights self-catering from £189 per person, based on two people, arriving October 6. See lastminute-cottages.co.uk.

YORKSHIRE DALES

One of the best times to visit the Dales and the North Yorkshire Moors is during the Dark Skies Festival (from October 24 to November 2).

Visitors will be able to enjoy 'planet walks,' stargazing, and 'stay and observe' packages in both parks.

If you have a car, I recommend staying at the Cherry Blossom cottage near Beverley, East Yorkshire, which dates back to 1833 and offers cozy country-style comfort, including wood-burning stoves.

For water activity lovers, the festival also offers night swimming and late canoeing trips on Ullswater, the second-largest lake in the region.

After an active evening, return to the Barn Garth cottage, where an open fire and comfortable sofas will greet you after a chilly night.

The cottage accommodates up to six people in three comfortable bedrooms with classic style—complete with wooden beams and cozy nooks.

Cost: Seven nights self-catering from £129.83 per person, based on six people, arriving October 24 during the festival. See cottages.com.

EXMOOR NATIONAL PARK

With minimal light pollution, the skies above Exmoor National Park in Devon are often filled with twinkling stars.

There will also be night tours on electric bikes, late sauna sessions, and creative evenings.

To enjoy beautiful daytime views, book the Bayview Tower—a three-story cottage in the charming resort of Lynton and Lynmouth.

Its elevated location on the cliff edge offers stunning views of the churning waves and green hills on the horizon.

The covered patio is a great spot for stargazing with a drink in hand.

Cost: Four nights self-catering from £196.25 per person, based on four people, arriving October 27 during the festival. Pets are welcome. See sykescottages.co.uk.

SCOTLAND

Nothing compares to a rural retreat in the Scottish Highlands, where hills meet the darkest skies, generously illuminated by stars during winter.

This area not only offers excellent conditions for stargazing but is also a true paradise for nature lovers due to its vast expanses and diverse wildlife.

When you're not hiking the dense forest trails, visit Moray Firth, where you can see dolphins jumping out of the water.

For excellent stargazing, book a few nights at The Larches, a village in Culbokie, near Dingwall, which sits high on a hill among a quiet field.

This wooden house features a hot tub on a sheltered terrace, along with a living room with a roaring fire and three bedrooms with panoramic windows for comfortable viewing while snuggled up in a blanket.

Cost: Seven nights self-catering from £216.25 per person, based on four people. See cottages.com.
