Gibraltar has the cheapest duty-free: what can be bought for a pittance.
Very profitable purchases in Gibraltar
According to The Sun: Shopping in duty-free zones has always been popular among shopaholics, but it is now hard to understand whether you can truly gain from it. However, there is an airport located less than three hours from the UK where prices for goods are genuinely low.
Alamy AlamyGibraltar is a Mediterranean town south of Spain, ideal for Brits who want to buy alcohol, cheap perfumes, and designer bags. The prices of duty-free goods here are very advantageous due to Gibraltar's tax policy, specifically the absence of VAT and excise taxes.
Adele Cook, a writer for the Sun and a semi-Gibraltarian, notes that she often sees tourists coming to the airport for goods. She shares:
“You can often see people coming off cruise ships just to stock up on goods.”
She adds:
“My dad loves to stock up on his alcohol collection while we are there.”
Low prices on alcohol
Among the attractive offers for alcohol in Gibraltar is a liter of The Famous Grouse whiskey for just £8.15. A liter of Bacardi costs £10.75 (£20 in the UK), and Captain Morgan — £11 (£20 in the UK). A liter of Jägermeister will set you back £12.50 (£25 in the UK), while a liter of Glen’s vodka is only £3.40 (£17 in the UK).
For comparison, a liter of Captain Morgan in the Lanzarote duty-free zone costs £12.69, which is similar to prices in Ibiza, Madrid, and Granada.

Shopping beyond the airport
Not only can you find valuable products at the airport. Adele mentions that Gibraltar in general is an ideal place to buy designer items at lower prices. Strolling along the long main street, you can come across many stores selling duty-free items: alcohol, perfumes, and electronics.
Adele recommends the SM Seruya store for perfumes and cosmetics. She also mentions that she bought Rayban sunglasses for £85, while their usual price is £110.
Before spending money, it is important to check the limits on bringing goods into the UK. According to information on the GOV.UK website, the limit for alcoholic drinks depends on the type: you can bring in 42 liters of beer and 18 liters of wine. For spirits with an alcohol content over 22%, you are allowed to bring in 4 liters.
How to find the best places to relax
Adele visits Gibraltar at least twice a year to see family, and she has several tips for Brits planning a visit. To enjoy the beach, it is better to choose Eastern Beach, as the sun will shine there longer. She also recommends the Bistro Point restaurant at the university with a great sea view and delicious brunch.
For seafood lovers, Adele recommends the Jumpers Wheel restaurant: although it does not impress with its appearance, it offers delicious fish, calamari, swordfish, and octopus.
