The route, which will appear on September 27, 2025, will connect Waterloo and Lewisham stations with intermediate stops at Elephant & Castle and New Cross Gate.

During the first week, travel will be free, although passengers will need to validate with an Oyster card or contactless card without charge.

From October 6, the fare will be £1.75 per single journey.

Schedule and benefits of the new route

Buses will run every 12 minutes from Monday to Saturday and every 15 minutes on Sundays and evenings. These are electric buses equipped with modern amenities such as USB charging at seats and spaces for persons with disabilities.

“The launch of the new Bakerloop express bus is a welcome and exciting development for southeast London,” said the branding chief, Mayor of Lewisham.

Bakerloop will become part of the wider Superloop bus network that covers London. The first Superloop route was launched in July 2023 to improve connectivity in the suburbs of London.

In the future, new routes are also planned, including SL11 between Abbey Wood and North Greenwich, as well as SL12 connecting Gants Hill and Ferry Lane in Rainham via Romford. Their launch is scheduled for 2026.

The launch of the Bakerloop route marks a significant step in the development of public transport in London, providing local residents with easier access to major transport hubs. With free rides at the start, the program aims to encourage more people to use public transport, which is especially important for reducing congestion and improving the environmental situation in the city.
