Baginton, just a two-minute drive from the airport, is a quiet village with around a thousand residents. Previously, locals could fly from here to cities like Malaga and Ibiza.

Thomsonfly began operating budget flights in March 2004 to cities like Palma, Valencia, Rome, Nice, Marseille, Naples, Pisa, Venice, and Jersey. However, after four years, the airline ceased operations from Coventry, focusing on charter flights.

Coventry Airport continues to operate, but it no longer serves regular passenger flights.

Attractions of the village of Baginton

In recent years, there have been rumors about the airport's closure, as the area is planned to be repurposed. However, the village of Baginton boasts several interesting landmarks, including the Roman Lunt Fort.

The fort does not operate continuously; events are held on certain days. The next event is scheduled for September 20, 2025, as part of Heritage Week. Roman soldiers Rufus and Gnaeus will conduct tours of the historical site dating back to 60 AD. The area has recently been refurbished, and visitors can enjoy views from the fort's highest point.

Two-hour tours are organized for visitors, where they can learn more about the fort's history. One visitor shared their experience:

“A wonderful morning at the fort! While it's not a large site, it's impressive to see, and the small museum and excellent staff make the visit incredibly pleasant!”

Another historical site is Bagot Castle, which currently remains in ruins. It is open from April to October on weekends and public holidays. The castle was built in the 14th century, and its ruins can be explored for free; there are picnic benches available. The entrance fee for adults is £5, for children aged 5 to 16 and seniors over 60 it is £2.50.

In Baginton, there are several pubs; one of them is The Oak Baginton, a family-run business offering accommodation and hearty meals. Another pub, The Old Mill, is located at the other end of the village and offers classic dishes like 'frog in a hole' and 'shepherd's pie.'

The nearest airport for commercial flights is located in Birmingham, a 40-minute drive from Coventry, from where flights operate across Europe as well as to destinations like Florida, Monte Carlo, Punta Cana, Amritsar, and Dubai. It is also worth visiting the nearby museum, with an entrance fee of only £5 and high ratings from visitors on TripAdvisor.

Alamy It should be noted that the village of Baginton is not only a place with historical significance but also an active tourist spot, attracting visitors with its landmarks and picturesque views. In light of further changes at the airport, locals hope for the development of other opportunities for interested tourists.
