When I was little, the red and white sign of Little Chef and the promise of their Jubilee Tarts with cherry sauce were the major hurdle of any long car trip.

Now I plan my route around the new red sign.

The Mollie motel and diner from celebrity favorite Soho House have transformed road trips in the south.

And now they are also set to open in Manchester.

We stop at their base in Oxfordshire on our way to Wales and find a chic, bright oak-paneled interconnecting room with colorful armchairs, smart TVs, curated Spotify playlists, and own Mollie coffee.

Overlooking the neighboring fields, our kids Poppy, six, and Raffi, four, happily spot birds from the floor-to-ceiling windows.

Our bellies rumble, we head to the diner.

It's a lively space filled with Cadillac-style booths and classic tomato-shaped ketchup bottles.

Dishes like hot cheese croquettes with hot honey, £5.50, and New Yorker burgers with double cheese and chimichurri mayo, relish, steak sauce, and pickles fly out while the kids dig into macaroni and cheese and chicken nuggets with beans and fries, at £7.75 each.

The cookie pie, £7.50, nicely ends our meal.

My husband Andy and I amusingly enjoy our favorite bourbon, peach and mint julep, £9.70, watermelon prosecco spritz, £8.20, and chocolate Oreo hard shakes, £9.50 - so we are glad the rooms are just across the parking lot, through a stylish reception with its mid-century decor.

The beds are extra comfortable, and the rain shower along with Cowshed amenities rejuvenates us the next day, while Dyson hair products in the room handle my drink...
