Abandoned Villages of Europe: How Places Frozen in Time Look.
There are many abandoned villages scattered throughout Europe, frozen in time. Their dilapidated buildings and eerie atmosphere resemble film horror sets, but seeing them in person is very interesting and captivating.

The Italian village of Craco was founded by Greek settlers in the 6th century BC, and later transformed into a fortified medieval settlement. The village has been deserted since 1963 due to constant landslides, floods, and an earthquake in 1980. Today, many authentic buildings remain here — churches, towers, and houses. The mystical architecture of the town attracts filmmakers and tourists alike.
This Croatian village is located on the island of Hvar. This location was mainly used for agriculture and livestock. In the 20th century, it gradually emptied as people moved to nearby towns. The stone houses, chapel, and distillery have wonderfully preserved among untouched nature. Although the village is uninhabited, tours are conducted here, and a small museum showcases the history of peasants in Croatia.
Sfendili is a small village on the Greek island of Crete, founded in the 16th century. It was partially submerged due to the construction of the Aposelemis dam. The peasants relocated in the early 2000s. When the water recedes, the ruins of the village emerge. The church and stone houses eerily rise from the reservoir. This is why the village has earned the nickname 'Atlantis of Crete.'
Until 1943, Tyneham in Dorset was a quiet English village with a population of about 225. During World War II, the military requisitioned the land for training exercises, asking villagers to leave with the promise that they would be able to return. However, the village has remained frozen in time, and its school, church, and cottages have turned into ruins.
In various corners of Europe, we can find abandoned villages that have long retreated from people but left their eerie mark in time. These places attract tourists and filmmakers with their atmosphere of mystery and enigma.
