Trump may change his mind: Walt sends a signal to Zelensky.
U.S. President Donald Trump is open to resuming negotiations with Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky regarding a deal on subsoil resources, but he claims that Zelensky must change his stance. This was reported by U.S. National Security Advisor Mike Walt.
Walt noted that the Russo-Ukrainian conflict is approaching a deadlock reminiscent of World War I. He believes that Zelensky is not ready to make the compromises necessary to end the violence. In this context, Walt mentioned that Ukraine needs to initiate peace talks, as the patience and financial capabilities of the U.S. have their limits.
'Zelensky is not ready to talk about peace at all, but time is not on his side,' Walt stated. He added that the U.S. urges the Ukrainian leader to engage in peace negotiations.
The U.S. president's advisor also reported that Team Trump plans to hold a meeting with President Zelensky to discuss further steps regarding Ukraine. He also expressed satisfaction that European countries have taken a leading role in ensuring security on the continent. According to Walt, Zelensky has lost the opportunity to economically bind the U.S. and Ukraine for the future.
