The President of the United States, Donald Trump, stated that NATO should not be part of the security guarantees for Ukraine, considering this an important argument for Russia. This was reported by French President Emmanuel Macron after a video conference with Trump, Le Monde reported.
Trump's position on NATO in security guarantees
Macron explained that Trump clearly expressed the position that NATO should not be part of the security guarantees for Ukraine, as this is 'an important argument for Russia'. The French president added that during a meeting with Putin in Alaska, Trump seeks to achieve a ceasefire. Macron also supported the initiative for prisoner exchanges and the release of children.
It should be noted that on August 13, Volodymyr Zelensky announced Trump's readiness to provide security guarantees to Ukraine. However, it is worth noting that such guarantees will not involve direct supply of weapons or military personnel from Washington, as reported by Politico.
During the video conference between the presidents of France and the USA, it was noted that Trump believes that security guarantees for Ukraine through NATO could cause a conflict with Russia, which should be avoided. The initiative for peaceful conflict resolution and prisoner exchange was also supported.Read also
