Tourists from Canada are not traveling to the USA: airlines are massively canceling flights.
Many Canadians are excluding the USA from their travels, which may lead to the cancellation of flights by Canadian airlines and losses for tour operators. This is reported by 'Glavcom' referring to Vancouverok.
Travel companies and airlines are facing a significant decline in demand - Canadians do not want to go to America. According to Flight Centre Travel Group Canada, the number of travel bookings to American cities in February decreased by 40% compared to last year. One in five customers canceled their trip to the USA in the last three months.
One reason for this situation is the disrespect and aggressive rhetoric from the White House towards Canada. Canadians did not take the tariff threats seriously. For example, in January, Air Canada, the country's national carrier, announced a 10% reduction in the number of flights to Florida, Las Vegas, and Arizona starting in March. Previously, these destinations were the most popular during spring break.
WestJet also reported a decrease in passenger numbers and an increase in bookings to other sunny countries such as Mexico and the Caribbean. According to Cirium, the number of budget carrier Flair Airlines flights to the USA in March decreased by 24% compared to last year. Air Transat reduced the number of flights by 12%, and Sunwing Airlines completely canceled all flights to the USA.
Commercial transport has also decreased due to general uncertainty, which has led to a decline in business ties between buyers and sellers due to the tariff war. Even after the cancellation of tariffs, passengers do not show a desire to change their behavior.
The decline of the Canadian dollar is also complicating the stay in the USA, leading to the sale of many Canadian homes and apartments, especially in Florida.
It was previously reported that US President Donald Trump signed an order exempting some goods from Canada and Mexico from duties until April 2. In response, Canada suspended the planned implementation of tariffs on over 4,000 types of goods from the USA until this date.
