In the Czech Republic, Ukrainians can be fined for children: details.
Ukrainian children with temporary protection are obligated to attend schools in the Czech Republic, even with remote education from Ukraine. Parents who violate these rules may be fined. This was reported by the Czech Ministry of the Interior for Ukrainian refugees Naši Ukrajinci.
With the approaching school year, the Ministry of the Interior of the Czech Republic reminds Ukrainian refugees that children with temporary protection are subject to the obligation of obtaining education and attending school.
In the Czech Republic, compulsory education covers a year of preschool education and 9 years of attendance at a general education school.
"Failure to comply with this obligation by parents or legal guardians of the child may lead to a fine, being placed under the control of social services, and in some cases – even imprisonment for up to 2 years," the department warns.
For those refugees who have not been able to find a place in a school or kindergarten, it is necessary to get a written confirmation of refusal.
It is also necessary to take care of enrolling in a school or kindergarten now if it has not been done yet. "Contact the nearest kindergartens, your school at your place of residence – however, do not limit yourself to just them; try a wider area as well. If you cannot find a place on your own, seek help from the education department of the municipality or the administration of the city district at your place of residence," advises the Ministry of the Interior.
The department emphasizes that remote or online education in a Ukrainian school does not replace compulsory school education in the Czech Republic.
On the website of the Czech Ministry of Education, information has been published for Ukrainians about the rules of enrolling children in kindergartens and schools.
It is best to contact the kindergarten at your place of residence. Which kindergarten belongs to your place of residence can be found out at the Department of Education of the relevant municipal institution or city district.
Enrolling in kindergarten
To enroll in kindergarten, you need to submit a filled-in questionnaire, which can be taken at the institution or on its website. It is also necessary to bring the child's birth certificate, a doctor's certificate of mandatory vaccinations, and the legal representative's identification. The application can be submitted to several institutions.
If the child has reached the age of compulsory school attendance (this is 6-15 years), the state assigns the school they must attend. For this, you need to contact the relevant main or district administration. Then the parents apply in writing to the school asking to accept the student. The assigned school must accept them if there are places.
If there are no places, the issue is resolved at the management levels of different levels, who will look for a free place. Parents can search for a school on their own.
Let us remind you that refugees from Ukraine have started generating income for the Czech budget. In the first three months of this year, the contribution of Ukrainians to the state treasury of the Czech Republic exceeded the paid aid by almost 3 billion Czech korunas.
