In Greece, unidentified individuals attacked a memorial event for the victims of the Holodomor. This was reported by Father Ihor Posoleny, a priest of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church community of St. Nicholas in Greece.

According to him, a large group of aggressively minded individuals with communist symbols disrupted their event on the Day of Remembrance for the victims of the Holodomor. The incident occurred in the city of Mandra, where Ukrainians gathered from other localities at the monument to Taras Shevchenko to hold memorial activities.

The priest reported that the attackers blocked access to the monument and acted aggressively. A diplomat from the embassy was injured in the attack.

The Embassy of Ukraine in the Hellenic Republic has already responded to the incident. It expressed protest against the aggressive actions and provocations towards the participants of the Ukrainian community event, noting that the attackers were members of the Communist Party of Greece.

'The embassy strongly condemns the disgraceful disruption of a memorial event, which has profound historical and emotional significance for the Ukrainian people. This provocation, culminating in physical attacks - including an attack on a Ukrainian diplomat who sustained injuries - is absolutely unacceptable and constitutes a flagrant violation of international norms protecting diplomatic personnel,' the statement from the Embassy of Ukraine in the Hellenic Republic said.

The embassy called on Greece to ensure a thorough investigation of the incident.

'It is important to safeguard the right of individuals and communities to honor historical tragedies without fear of intimidation or violence. We believe that the relevant Greek authorities will do everything necessary to respond to this serious incident and prevent similar provocations in the future,' the embassy stressed.

It is worth noting that every year on the fourth Saturday of November, Ukrainians worldwide light candles in memory of the millions of victims of the Holodomor of 1932-1933 and other periods of famine (1921-1923 and 1946-1947), which the Soviet totalitarian regime inflicted against our people. A nationwide moment of silence traditionally occurs at 16:00. At this Time, people place a candle or lamp on their windowsill. This light symbolizes mourning for the victims of famines, as well as resilience during the ongoing full-scale war in Ukraine.
