Ukrainian activists kidnapped in Georgia: what is known about the case.
According to ТСН: In Tbilisi, Ukrainian activists Volodymyr Dubovskyi and Alina Savielieva, leaders of the organization "Unity of Ukrainians of Historical Lands" have disappeared. This information has been confirmed by the organization itself, stating that the night before, they were likely kidnapped by unknown individuals who took them away by car.
Representatives of the organization reported that Dubovskyi and Savielieva stopped communicating, and one of their acquaintances went to their residence. She found only a locked cat there, and a neighbor told her about the possible circumstances of their kidnapping.
Witnesses noted that the people who took the activists resembled employees of the State Security Service of Georgia, but at this moment, there are no official confirmations.
What is known about the activists in Georgia
Dubovskyi is a co-founder of a movement that, according to the organization's information, defends the ethnic rights of Ukrainians on historical territories that currently belong to Russia. He is being persecuted in Russia on charges of terrorism and was entered into the register of extremists and terrorists in 2024. Savielieva is also being pursued under the article about "fake news about the army."
Since 2022, both had been in Georgia, but they did not obtain asylum status. A month ago, the couple attempted to fly to Serbia, but they were removed from the flight.
Georgian Telegram channels reported that the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia likely confirmed the arrest of the activists, but at the time of publication, there were no official statements from the agency. It is known that Dubovskyi and Savielieva were placed in a detention center, accused of violating Georgia's migration legislation. A court hearing is scheduled for November 28.
It should be noted that it was previously reported that Ukrainian flags were hung near the residence of the Speaker of the Czech Republic, who does not support Ukraine. Activists placed Ukrainian flags around the house of Czech Speaker Tomio Okamura.
The situation with Dubovskyi and Savielieva has raised concerns among Ukrainian public figures and human rights defenders. Their activity in Georgia was important for supporting the rights of Ukrainians in the context of new challenges and threats. We will follow the further development of events, as lawyers have already expressed their willingness to defend them during the court hearing.
